One

Last week I didn’t post to Sunday Scribblings and regretted it. This week I get another chance. But I thought long and hard about the assignment last week. Who else might I have been? An astronaut , or even the captain of a starship. A famous artist or rock star. A hermit, or possibly a knight in shinning armor. But when all was said and done. I arrived at this.
I’d be one inch taller.
I’d be one pound lighter.
I’d be better read by one book.
I’d be one year younger.
I’d be one hair less grey.
I’d be more traveled by one country.
I’d be better schooled by one class.
I’d be a better friend by one person.
I’d be a better father by one daughter
I’d be a better husband by one wife
I’d be a better son by one parent
I’d be wealthier by one dollar.
I’d be a better citizen by one deed
I’d be wishing on one more star
I’d be walking by one more mile
I’d be eating one more cheeseburger
I’d be watching one more sunset
I’d be crying one more tear
I’d be singing one more song
I’d be asking one more question
I’d be listening for one more answer
And when I was done being all these things, I’d still be me only a little better.
